海盜先發柯爾(Gerrit Cole)逐漸站穩球隊王牌地位，6日面對印地安人的比賽，他繳出8局僅失3分的優質內容，不但幫助球隊在主場以5比3留下勝利，同時也拿下個人本季第12勝，獨步大聯盟。
柯爾連2戰挑戰勝投失利，此役前3局就被敲出5支安打丟3分，看似勝投無望，他卻在四局開始展現王牌架勢，連續解決16名打者，直到退場都沒再被擊出安打，徹底封鎖印地安人打線。
海盜打線則在五局下提供火力支援，靠著艾維瑞斯(Pedro Alvarez)的2分砲以及「海賊王」麥卡臣(Andrew McCutchen)的關鍵二壘安打，單局灌進5分逆轉戰局，最後海盜則在守護神馬蘭森(Mark Melancon)投出並列聯盟第一的27次救援成功下，以2分之差收下勝利。
柯爾總計先發8局用了106球，被敲出5支安打失3分，另外送出5次三振1次保送，順利拿下笑傲全聯盟的第12勝，同時也是個人生涯新高。
「雖然前面就掉3分，但我並不懊惱。」柯爾說，「因為被打出去的那些球，有些是我投得不錯的，比賽就是這樣。對手不會去追打好球帶以外的球，但我們從比賽開始到結束都照著計畫再走，順利贏得比賽。」
2013年才登上大聯盟的柯爾，已接下海盜王牌先發的重任，連3年都繳出雙位數勝場；本季表現大爆發，至今出賽18場，其中14場繳出優質先發，110.1局飆出113K，累積12勝4敗防禦率2.28。
海盜今天贏得比賽後，最近10戰拿下7勝，戰績47勝34敗在國聯中區暫居老二，仍落後給分區龍頭紅雀6場勝差。
